FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A RESIDENCY?

An arts residency is a program that provides artists with time and space to work on their projects in a dedicated and supportive environment. Typically, a residency is hosted by an organisation or institution that provides working spaces for artists, as well as access to equipment, funding and other resources.

Artists apply to participate in a residency and are often selected by a jury. Once accepted, artists typically stay at the residency for a set period of time, ranging from a few weeks to several months, during which they can focus on their creative work without the distractions and responsibilities of daily life.

Residencies can be discipline-specific, such as for visual artists, writers, or musicians, or they can be interdisciplinary, allowing artists from different disciplines to collaborate and work together.

Overall, a residency provides artists with a supportive community, dedicated time and space to work on their project, and opportunities for professional development and growth.

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO GETS THE RESIDENCIES?

All applications will be carefully reviewed and evaluated against the residency theme, the application guidelines, and our diversity focus.

Initial screening (for fakes, and applications not eligible) will take place internally via our online system by five team members. Final awarding will be decided by an independent Residency Jury Panel, which is made up of ten diverse industry leaders.

Feedback will be given to all applicants collectively via a virtual workshop after the open call closes.
